If you would like to know what Swedish country sounds like, you should listen to this record. Simon Andersson has his very own style, brought by influence of favourite bands like Whitesnake and ToTo. His songs combine rock and pop with country music and his voice fits wonderfully well to the songs. The melodies appeal to you instantly and they stay in your head. This becomes most clear with ”Hey More”, one of the faster songs, which tells the story about a relationship with a woman, that he just can’t seem to get enough of. In the chorus you’re left with no options but one, to sing along. The same goes for ”Mia”, one of the more emotional tracks. My personal favorites are ”It’s A Long Way There” and ”Trouble On Your Mind”, which both have a quite different style and this is exactly what makes this record stand out. A Brand New Day is Andersson’s first release, and it’s without a doubt, that he has his own unique style. And that’s something that you need, to manage to stay ahead.
